Over six weeks between January 6, 2020 and February 24, 2020, fallen film mogul Harvey Weinstein was on trial in Manhattan Supreme Court for rape and sexual assault. Weinstein was convicted and on March 11, 2020 was sentenced to 23 years in prison, and his prosecution was seen as a watershed moment for the #MeToo movement. The judge in Weinstein’s case barred cameras from the courtroom, so my colleagues and I were limited in what we could shoot. Covering the trial for the New York Daily News with digital cameras, similar to dozens of other visual journalists, I decided to expand on this inherently limited pallet by shooting with film, specifically, using my Mint RF70 rangefinder Instax camera. Instant photography appeared to have a disarming effect on Weinstein and his team, who seemed to relish the spectacle until the verdict.
